Maurício dos Santos Pereira
Mauricio started as a postdoctoral associate in Adam Granger’s Lab at the Stanley Center for Psychiatric Research of the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard in October 2023. During his academic career, he has always been interested in unraveling the complex molecular mechanisms of neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative diseases. Currently, he pursues the investigation of neuro-immune interactions as important traits in the development of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder by using transcriptomics, high-throughput quantification and behavioral approaches.
Prior to joining the Granger group, Mauricio completed his Ph.D. and continued to follow the academic field as a postdoctoral researcher at University of Sao Paulo (USP/RP, Brazil) under the supervision of Dr. Elaine Del Bel and the Institut du Cerveau et de la Moelle Épinière (Paris Brain Institute, Paris, France) under the supervision of Dr. Patrick Michel and Dr. Rita Raisman-Vozari, in a collaboration project between the two countries. Throughout this period, he aimed to characterize the influence of neuroinflammation on the manifestation of Parkinson’s disease and L-DOPA-induced dyskinesia and how pharmacological manipulation of the endocannabinoid system could be a potential treatment for these diseases.
